I think many web 2.0 technologies can be useful in the classroom. Different tools can be used at different grade levels for different things. It is impossible to say that some tools work and some tools don't because every classroom is so different. An example of a web 2.0 technology that can be useful in classrooms is quizlet. Quizlet can be used for many different age groups. A web 2.0 technology tool that would not be useful in most classrooms is craigslist.

I have used desmos a lot throughout my education. It is a math website mainly used for graphing. You can type in any equation and it plots it on a graph. This is useful in a classroom because it is free and not every student can afford a graphing calculator. It is also useful because it can be projected for the whole room to see unlike a graphing calculator. However, it is easier to use than most calculators and is rarely used during exams. This could be a problem who know how to do something on desmos but not with their calculator.

The technological advancement that I think holds the most promise for education is video conferencing and video chatting. Now kids have access to the best professor in the world even if they aren't in the same city. A few kids in my high school who were very advanced in math took calc via video chat with a professor at Georgia Tech.

  2. Alex,
I have never heard of Desmos before, but in middle school, my teacher made us create a whole booklet of graphs and it took forever to draw out and trace every graph. It would have been nice to know about this website back then, and it would have been so much easier and more convenient to use. We were all expected to have a graphing calculator so it would have been nice to be able to access these skills on a computer rather than an expensive calculator.
