There are many influences on students and teachers to use technology. The main influence is the changing workforce. Technology is now a requirement to work in the world so education is adjusting accordingly. It is now a priority for children to be able to use and work with technology on a day to day basis. Just like learning a new language, it is easier to learn technology at a younger age.
One standard that is outside my current skill set is educator standard 6 "Educators facilitate learning with technology to support student achievement of the ISTE Standards for Students." I haven't experienced a classroom setting where I am in charge. I am not an education major so I have never really thought about this. However, I think it is a good skill to have because no matter what job you're in you still have to teach other people certain skills.
I agree with the label digital native. There is definitely a difference between digital natives and digital immigrants. I think the key difference is that digital natives view technology as a necessity and digital immigrants view technology as an extra asset. I expect future students to be even more dependent on technology than I am.
